DSL light flashing or unstable connection

The following troubleshooting steps assumes that your connection is unstable due to a loss of synchronization. In order to confirm this is the case, please examine your DSL light (2nd light from the left on TP-Link modems) when the issue is occurring. The DSL light should always be on solid once the connection is established. If you see the light flashing on occasion or if it is completely off, your modem is losing synchronization.

Troubleshooting DSL synchronization issues:
  • Make sure that the DSL modem’s phone line is properly connected to the previously provisioned wall telephone jack.
  • A telephone or filter might be defective: In order to confirm this, please try disconnecting all filters and telephones from your wall jacks except your modem. If this resolves the issue, try connecting each device one by one again until the issue reappears. Also if you still have a classic landline, try making a call with only one phone with filter connected at a time. If you see the DSL light flashing, you have found the filter or phone causing the issue.
  • The telephone cord used with your modem is too long or defective: Try a different phone cord and ensure it is no longer than 6 ft. in length. Use a longer Ethernet cable or powerline Ethernet bridge should you need to extend a wired connection to the modem instead of extending the phone cord.
  • Please ensure you don't have a splitter (Y connector) between the DSL and the telephone jack.
  • If still using a classic Bell landline, all devices that use the phone line must have filters, other than the modem itself. (For example: telephones, fax machines, answering machines, alarm systems, satellite receiver, etc.)
